Children are sent as soldiers to many armed conflicts around the world.
As examples we can tell: Afghanistan, Txad, Central African Republic, Colombia, Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), India, Irak, Israel and the occupied territotries, Nepal, Pakistan, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Somalia, Sudan, Uganda, Thailand and Yemen.
Armed groups and armies of many countries recruit children as soldiers. A lot of them are recruited by force and can not escape from these groups. Most of the children are between 15 and 18 years old, but in many wars there are children under 9.
An estimated 250,000 to 300,000 child soldiers are engaged in conflicts at the present, in about 19 countries worlwide. These children live in very difficult and disturbing conditions, and are trained to kill and maim from the age of 12.
Child soldiers are often recruited to fight in wars because they can easily be manipulated, may be vulnerable and have few choices. Children who are born in war zones see the armed groups and armies a way to "survive", that's why they enlist as volunteers.
